Mail Drop is a feature available in Apple Mail, which allows you to send large files up to 5GB at a time. You can send all kinds of files like presentations, videos, photos, and more. To use the Mail Drop feature, you must have an iCloud account. In short, without the iCloud account, you can’t use this feature. The Mail Drop feature is enabled by default for the Apple Mail app. To know how to access mail drop, follow the steps below.

Accessing Mail Drop

  • Step 1:Initially, make sure that you have an iCloud account. If not, create a new iCloud account.
  • Step 2:Now, compose a new email message on the Apple Mail app.
  • Step 3:Click the attachments icon.
  • Step 1:Select an attachment (file) that is too large or more than 20 MB.
  • Step 5:Now, a pop-up window saying, “These attachments may be too large to send in email. Do you want to use Mail Drop to deliver that attachments using iCloud?” will appear on the screen.
  • Step 1:Along with the above message, you can see three buttons, namely Use Mail Drop, Try Sending Attachments, and Cancel.
  • Step 1:Click the Use Mail Drop button.
  • Step 7:Now, the selected file will be uploaded to your iCloud account.
  • Step 8:If prompted, sign in to your iCloud account and send the email.
  • Step 9:Now, the email you have composed will be sent to the recipient as a normal, massive size message.
  • Step 10:The recipient just has to click the Mail Drop link to open it.

Using Mail Drop On Non-iCloud Account

If you don’t have an iCloud account, then you can try this method to send large attachments via Mail Drop. Generally, the Mail Drop feature works with the iCloud account and any email account that supports the IMAP protocol. Now, we see how to access mail drop with the IMAP account, follow the instructions given below.

  • Step 1 :Open the Mail app on your computer.
  • Step 2 :Click Preferences > Accounts.
  • Step 3 :Here, you will see the list of email accounts configured in the Mail app.
  • Step 4 :Select the email account in which you wish to use Mail Drop.
  • Step 5 :After selecting the account, click Advanced > Send attachments with Mail Drop.
