Resolve iCloud Authentication Error

If you receive an iCloud authentication error while signing into your iCloud account, then the quick methods provided below will help you to fix it.

  • Step 1: Initially, make sure that you have entered your Apple account credentials correctly.
  • Step 2: If not, enter the correct credentials and try to sign in to your iCloud account.
  • Step 3: If you receive this error while accessing a third-party app using your iCloud account, then first, enable 2-factor authentication, and create an app-specific password.

Enabling 2-Factor Authentication:

For iOS 10.3 Or Later:

  • Step 1: Open Settings.
  • Step 2: Select your name followed by Password & Security.
  • Step 3: Locate and tap on the Turn on Two-Factor Authentication option.
  • Step 4: Tap the Continue button to fix iCloud authentication error.

For iOS 10.2 Or Earlier:

  • Step 1: On the Settings screen, tap the iCloud option.
  • Step 2: Tap your Apple ID > Password & Security > Turn on Two-Factor Authentication > Continue.

Generating An App-Specific Password:

  • Step 1: Sign in to your Apple ID.
  • Step 2: Go to the Security section.
  • Step 3: Locate App-Specific Passwords and tap or click on the Generate Password option.
  • Step 4: Perform the prompts displayed on the screen to create the app-specific password.
  • Step 5: Now, try to sign in to your iCloud account.

Unable To Sign In To iCloud.com

If you’re still facing iCloud authentication error and unable to sign in to iCloud.com, then perform the following instructions:

  • Step 1: Make sure that you have entered your Apple ID credentials correctly.
  • Step 2: While entering your account password, check if the Caps Lock key is on. If yes, turn it off, and then enter the password.
  • Step 3: If you have forgotten your account password or you see a message saying “Your account has been disabled or locked,” then follow the instructions given below to unlock it.
  • Step 4: Reset your Apple ID password: If you have enabled 2-factor authentication, then use a trusted phone number or device to perform the reset process. 
  • Step 5: If you have a recovery key, then you can use it to regain your account access.
  • Step 6: If your account has been disabled in the iTunes or App Store, then contact Apple Support to resolve it.
  • Step 7: If you can’t remember your Apple ID password, then reset it by following the instructions given below.
  • Step 8: For iOS: Open Settings and tap your name > Password & Security > Change Password. Perform the prompts displayed on the screen.
  • Step 9: For macOS Mojave, High Sierra, or Sierra: Click Apple menu > System Preferences > iCloud > Account Details. When prompted to enter your Apple ID password, click the Forgot Apple ID or password option. Follow the instructions displayed on your Mac device to reset your account password.
